25th Anniversary of International Philippine Philatelic Society Dateline: 01/01/2000 | Source: Linn's Magazine 12/27/99, p. 49 For the first time in Philippine postal history, the Philippine Postal Corporation honors the International Philippine Philatelic Society (IPPS) by issuing a souvenir sheet for its 25th anniversary. The sheet was issued on September 24, the actual date of anniversary. From 15,000 unsold stock of the original issue, 10,000 were overpinted with three markings added in the border area of a souvenir sheet (Scott 2539b) marking the 100th anniversary of Philippine independence, originally issued last June 02, 1998. A first-day postmark reads " IPPS - 25 years of International Promotion of Philippine Stamps. The society was founded by Frank and Linda Stanfield in 1974 and incorporated it as a nonprofit, educational organization in Manila, Philippines. A separate U.S. operation was set up woth Eugene A. Garrett as Overseas President when membership grew. At present, IPPS has nearly 300 members from 12 countries. Its activities include eight quarterly publications per year: The IPPS Journal, edited by Rober F. Yacano, deals primarily serious research on Philippine philately and the IPPS Newsletter, edited by Richard D. Miggins, announces membership news, current and general interests, awards, new issues and upcoming and past events.
